New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our daughter Puck and toddler Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Five years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

    Thank you for the tour of your country and the appropriate explanations of what you have decided to do on it. That was very comprehensive. You have done a good job and considering that you are not farmers by profession, you have moved forward successfully. Your future for you and your children looks very bright I think and I too live in the countryside on an old farm in central Sweden. I enjoy the peace and seclusion and the opportunity to grow vegetables, potatoes and keep small animals such as chickens and ducks. Greetings, Sven

    Lea, I think you correctly identified Tansy ragwort, a toxic plant to ruminants. Pull them out by their shallow soots and dispose in the non compostable items as they spread easily and the whole plant is toxic.

    • @ourportuguesehomestead
      @ourportuguesehomestead 5 днів тому

      No it's definitely St. John's Wort, Tansy Ragwort usually flowers a few weeks later. I don't pull either, as we have no ruminants that could eat them.

      @@ourportuguesehomestead agree the first was SJW, the mother source of many modern SSRI antidepressants. The second is the questionable Tansy which as a biennial and highly invasive and native to Europe but maybe not the dryness of Portugal. The green house beds need lots of water as the temps are usually extraordinarily high even with good ventilation, shade cloth might help.

    • @ourportuguesehomestead

      The greenhouse is on a timer with drip irrigation, so it gets a good watering and we have shadecloth over it now 😊

      @@ourportuguesehomestead The other item missing since you used mostly store compost might be nitrogen as the bagged material might be long on wood or sphagnum which will be great for soil tilts but rob the bed of nitrogen

    Make a fertilizer with 1 gallon of water and banana peel, overnight, then throw the peel away, pur evenly to all your tomatoes once a month, your tomatoes will flourish, potatoes love it too, it's potasium, also wood ash helps soil, in the Spring, like manure, BEFORE The growing Season, not too much of either so you don't burn the plant or trees,

    Deus tocou no meu coração que você tem desejo honesto dentro de si de ser uma pessoa justa. A bíblia fala do coração de David que chamou a atenção de Deus. Eu sou Português creio e confesso que Jesus é o Senhor e Salvador da minha vida. Assim como a senhora eu tenho um quintal, vivo numa aldeia. Aqui aquilo que mais gosto é dos pintassilgos, das rolas e do pardais a cantarem ás 6 da manhã. Tenho andado a por arbustos numa rede que tenho á volta do quintal para proteger dos carros que passam na estrada e estou a preparar o sítio para ter galinhas. Deus abençoe a sua família.
